Nothing about Lime Kiln was standard.
Not the fenceline.
Not the terrain.
Not the foundation conditions—or the schedule, for that matter.
It started rough.
The site hadn’t been prepped. There was no clear grade.
Every measurement taken on foot had a 20% margin of error.
So Steven—our lead engineer—turned to what he had: neighboring property lines, Google Earth overlays, satellite data. He rebuilt the layout, layer by layer, before a single post went in the ground.
And that was just the beginning. The fence had to thread between a retaining wall and existing power poles. The terrain dropped and climbed in places that forced us to rethink BOMs, elevation profiles, and install sequencing. Augers refused to drill in several zones, limestone sitting just below the surface.
Drawing from FHWA standards, we recalculated the foundation approach in-house to keep the design on track. And just when the design was locked in, fiberglass framing got stuck at the border. A customs error delayed the shipment, pushing us to the back of the queue.
But even then, the team didn’t flinch. Michael Heine flew out to Louisville to provide on-site guidance—pro bono. Nate stayed close. Engineering backed Steven up. And somehow, this high-variability, no-room-for-error job landed clean.
It's a great example of how, even when things go wrong, we can still deliver something we're proud of.
— Steven Marshall, Lead Engineer
A fully engineered, CIP-compliant system for a greenfield site with poor visibility, unknown grading, and unpredictable terrain. They needed it fast—and clean.
- Hybrid fencing system installed on a complex, variable topography
- Custom design strategy to navigate limestone and shallow refusal
- Full system redesign of foundations using in-house methods
- Real-time coordination across teams to manage shifting conditions
- Supplemental guidance delivered onsite at no charge
- Clean, finished transitions—anticipated during estimating and executed precisely in the field
This wasn’t just a fence on rock.
It was a calculated, team-driven answer to a constantly moving target.
What you don’t see in the photos:
The satellite overlays that stitched the layout together.
The foundation redesigns written on the fly when augers hit stone.
The coordination calls. The reshuffling. The reinforcement.
The pressure of not knowing—and the confidence of figuring it out anyway.
What it taught us:
Lime Kiln proved that success doesn’t come from having every answer up front. It comes from staying sharp. Communicating early. Adjusting fast. And never letting pressure pull the team apart.
We kept the customer in the loop. We owned the misses. And we finished what we started—together.
Because at VANQUISH, we don’t just build the system.
